Provincia di Carbonia Iglesias Sulcis Iglesiente

FASCINATING EVENTS, SURPRISING OCCASIONS

Above all, in Sulcis Iglesiente you will be involved in the magical vitality and natural rhythm of events and traditions that bridge the gap between antiquity and modernity, blending local traditions, Mediterranean
influences and continental inspiration. Jazz, blues, classical melodies and Latin rhythms against a sensational backdrop of exclusive natural stages. The Sulcis summer will win you over with an events calendar that boasts an international prestige. From July to September within the territory there are a series of concerts, readings, theatrical performances amidst a setting of temples, ancient tonnare, mines and centuries-old olive groves. At the end of July, one of the best dedicated festivals in Italy and Europe takes place, "Narcao Blues".

Jazz, fusion, photography and food-tasting attract thousands of spectators to Sant'Anna Arresi at the end of August for the "Ai Confini tra Sardegna e Jazz" event. From modern rhythms and ancient sacred traditions, such as the celebration of Easter in Sant'Antioco, which is the most ancient on the island, or the Holy Week in Iglesias, which evokes suggestive and captivating moods through a powerful collective rite that is dense with a spirituality that has remained unchanged since the 18th Century. And even further back in time, the roots of the Mauritanian Wedding, the traditional nuptial ceremony celebrated in August by the "Moors", as the inhabitants of the lower Sulcis were once referred to as, thus providing further evidence of the contact between the peoples of southern Sardinia and Africa after 1000 A.D.. This is a joyful and varied ritual which is rich in music, traditional dances and symbolic representations which is ready to offer spectators some of its magic!
